Why Is My Faucet Dripping?
The short answer
A dripping faucet usually means an internal sealing surface is no longer closing fully. Depending on the faucet design, the repair may involve a cartridge, ceramic disc, stem/washer, O-ring, seat, or another service part. Identifying the brand and valve style is more reliable than assuming every single-handle or two-handle faucet uses the same part.

- Steady drip from the spout when handle is off
- Water collects around the handle base

- —Worn cartridge (single-handle)
- —Degraded seat washer (two-handle)
- —Cracked O-rings
- —Mineral buildup on the valve seat
Safe things you can check
- ✓Note whether it drips from the spout or around the handle — different seals.
- ✓Shut off the supply valves under the sink before any work.
- ✓Identify the brand (Moen, Delta, Kohler) — many cartridges are free under warranty.
